Cars supporting wireless Apple CarPlay: Full list
Smartphone connectivity is one of the most in-demand features that drivers look for when searching for their next car lease.
This can be in the form of your car’s own infotainment system, or a method growing hugely in popularity: Apple CarPlay for iOS, or Android Auto for Android users.
But today we’ll be focusing on the Apple CarPlay side of things and whether it connects wirelessly, as it’s been estimated there are around 24 million iPhone users in the UK.
And who can blame them.
What is wireless Apple CarPlay?
Apple CarPlay enables you to connect your iPhone to your car’s infotainment system, giving you access and control to your phone’s features, which will be displayed on your infotainment screen.
Originally, this connection was via a Lightning cable from the USB port to your phone. But with wireless Apple CarPlay, no cable is required.
A connection is made via Bluetooth for initial pairing, and then a Wi-Fi connection is established for data transfer. This then allows for your iPhone’s screen to be mirrored onto your car’s display.
The benefits of wireless Apple CarPlay are allowing for automatic connection between your car and phone when you get in your car and turn it on.
Less time faffing, so you can get on the road and on your jolly way.
